Weave the Social Fabric

Many people sense that something is broken in society. Surveys show about half of young adult Americans are lonely. Opioid addiction, suicide, gun violence, ethnic tension and depression have been rising. We face rapid change from a globalized economy, cell phones and social media, job-hopping, online dating, immigration, and uncertainty about our future health and wealth. Our social fabric seems to be shredding. Others observe that the social fabric of our communities and nation was never really woven to include everyone in the first place. Yet, there have been many times as a country when people looked past their surface differences and came together as neighbors to support each other. We’ve come together today to get to know each other, share our experience of isolation and connection, and consider how we might work together to build connections that allow us to feel recognized, respected and valued.
Living Room Conversations has partnered with the Aspen Institute’s Weave Project and others to hold discussions across the country. Our aim is to explore what might be behind today’s rising sense of isolation, loneliness and distrust and what each of us can do to weave a strong social fabric.

Is there a fee to participate?
No, however, our work is made possible through the donations of generous supporters – who might include you! You can give by clicking HERE or the donation button on the top right of this page.
How long do I have to register?
You have up until 2 hours before the event’s start time to register.
What do I need to participate?
- You will need a device with a webcam (preferably a computer or tablet rather than a cell phone) to participate and be seen by other participants. A Zoom link to join the conversation and a link to the conversation guide will be sent to you the day before and again one hour before the conversation.
- An attitude of respect and curiosity!
Can I invite others to participate?
Yes! We suggest reaching out to those who think differently from you and telling them why you think they would like this conversation and why you are registered. You can send them to our events page on our website at: https://www.livingroomconversations.org/events/
What if I have questions or need to cancel?
If you have questions, you can contact Chelsea at firstname.lastname@example.org. Details about how to cancel online or via email will be in the confirmation email you will receive just after you register, or you can email Chelsea.
