A Holiday Recipe for Talking Politics with Family: Hour-Long Training
with Optional 30-Minute Q&A with Hosts
November 18, 2019 @ 6:30pm ET/ 3:30pm PT (adjust for your time zone)
Join us for an hour-long training with tips from the staff at Living Room Conversations about how (and when) to talk politics with family over the holidays while preserving your relationships. Many have asked us for this before, so based on our Friends and Family Tip Sheet we published last year, we’re making this our staff’s holiday gift to you this year! We’ll cover why family (and close friends) may be harder to talk with than those you typically meet in a Living Room Conversation, as well as:
- When to engage (and not engage) with people
- Setting the stage (or table) for a good conversation
- Asking questions, listening and learning
- Showing respect
- Managing your emotions
While most of the training is providing our tips, we also want to hear from you. To facilitate this, we will divide into breakout rooms of up to 7 people to allow you to share what concerns you. You are also invited to stay afterwards for an optional half-hour where you and your breakout room host can explore how to apply the training to your situation.
Registration will close 4 hours before the training begins. Please sign up only if you know you can attend.
A Zoom link to join the training and additional details will be sent to you the day before the training, and again one hour before the training.
You will need a device with a webcam to be seen (preferably a computer). If you must use a tablet or a cell phone, you will need to download the Zoom Cloud Meetings app first and enter the meeting ID code that is the same 9-digit number found on the Zoom URL link.
