What's Next U.S.? (Post-Midterms 2018)

The 2016 Presidential Election brought unprecedented attention to our political system and put our differences into stark relief. Many observe that in the past two years, we’ve become even more divided as a country. Now, after another socially polarized election, this conversation allows us to start exploring ‘what’s next.’

Relationships over Politics

Is it possible to use Living Room Conversations with our families and close friends? It is ultimately challenging, because family are more likely to break ‘host and guest’ social norms. The emotional stakes are higher, conversations are colored by long, deeply personal histories and it can feel easier to ‘take the gloves off’ and fight dirty, unconstrained by the politeness usually offered acquaintances. How might we hold the tension of our differences while working to repair connection and not further deepen division within our circle of family and friends?

What is a Living Room Conversation?

It's a simple concept that's surprisingly powerful.

Two conversation hosts from different viewpoints each invite one or two others to join together for structured conversation on a specific topic. (We have a lot of structured topic guides to choose from, or you can create your own).

The Conversation Agreements and structure help assure a good experience and allow participants to get to know each other.

Living Room Conversations can happen anywhere: our homes, coffee shops, conference spaces, churches, and even online via video chat.
